Meet Renee Tilby

In 2018 Shaun and Renee decided to trade the typical American dream for life on the road. Driven by the desire to spend as much quality, adventurous time with their five young children as possible, they downsized their lives to explore the USA in their Jayco Jay Flight travel trailer with dirt bikes, mountain bikes, and paddle boards in tow.

  • How would you best describe your travel/camping style?

We are go-with-the-flow, last-minute, take-the-opportunity-in-front-of-us travelers. Finding hidden gems and off-the-beaten-path places to explore is our jam!

  • What is something that always lifts your spirits?

Sitting around the campfire while the sun sets over our boondocking campsite!

  • What is your preferred type of camping (ie RV park, boondocking, state park, etc), and why?

While we thoroughly enjoy a variety of camping experiences, boondocking is what we love best. Being able to access remote areas and experience uninterrupted views in areas where we can also ride our ATVs and other wheeled apparatuses is the sweet spot for us.

  • What is your favorite piece of advice you’ve ever given or received on the road?

Always keep your black tank closed in between emptying.  No one wants to deal with a poop pyramid! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure when it comes to RV maintenance. Take a bit of time to learn how to take care of the little things so that they don’t turn into big, expensive fixes.

  • In a couple of sentences, what is your travel philosophy?

Our travel philosophy is to deeply experience any area that we are in;  from the scenic attractions to the food, culture, and people, and to get a sense of the microcultures from one area to the next. We believe that travel is the best educator, and have a desire for our children to have a broad world-view, to see and experience as many perspectives as possible. Every place has something beautiful to offer, we just need to go out and find it.

Favorite RV Destinations

Add these to your RV bucket list:
1
Bahia Honda State Park
Bahia Honda State Park in The Florida Keys, with its white sands, snorkeling, food, and overall island life vibe was incredible. Add in RV life, and it can’t be beat!
2
La Verkin, Utah
Boondocking outside of Zion National Park in LaVerkin, Utah is one of our all-time favorite dry camping spots that we go back to as often as possible! It creates a feeling of complete solitude, with all the conveniences of being half an hour away from civilization in one direction, and half an hour away from one of the best national parks in the other.
3
Valley of the Fire State Park, Nevada
Another area that keeps calling us back is Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada, which we affectionately call the sample pack of the American Southwest for its variety of formations and natural attractions in one small area.
4
Uinta Wasatch National Forest
Our first and longest-running camping destination is the Uinta and Wasatch Mountain Ranges. With seemingly endless acres of national forest land tucked in and around towering peaks, these Utah mountain ranges are home to some of our fondest camping memories.
