The THOR family of companies has a proud history of leadership in reducing solid waste landfill disposal and increasing recycling. We are pleased to announce our goal of 50% reduction of solid waste landfill disposal in or before 2030.
THOR’s core values of community, trustworthiness, compassion and adventure are the foundation of everything we do. This sense of continuous improvement and empowerment is key to our strategies for being an industry leader in sustainability.
Further emphasizing our commitment to sustainability, a new senior management role was established to lead our efforts. The Vice President of Global Supply Management and Sustainability is tasked with creating strategies and developing goals to embed sustainability across the enterprise. By combining the responsibilities of global supply management with sustainability, we have created a unique opportunity to engage with business partners across the value stream on critical sustainability initiatives.
We are very excited to report that THOR is demonstrating the highest level of ambition on climate change and paving the way to a net-zero carbon future by signing the UN Global Compact “Business Ambition for 1.5°C” Commitment. As a key first step to achieving our vision to be an industry leader in sustainability, THOR has pledged to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in or before 2050. Entering the initial phase of the commitment, we are driving to develop and publish a plan to achieve net-zero emissions backed by interim science-based targets.
Doing Business the Right Way
We believe in doing business the right way. We act with integrity and always comply with the law, provide employees with a fair and safe work environment, and deal fairly with members of the public (including our customers, investors, and competitors).
We are committed, at our core, to better the lives of our employees and customers, foster the viability of our communities, and promote a clean and safe environment through responsible and sustainable business practices. These business practices are critical to the long-term health and value of THOR Industries. Our commitment is, in part, demonstrated by the creation of THOR’s Sustainability Committee, a group charged with identifying and promoting sustainable business strategies and practices for the company.
THOR benefits when we all support our communities, as well as those of our suppliers and customers. After all, we succeed when our products inspire people to travel vastly, build strong connections with family and friends, and develop a lasting appreciation for nature. Whether you are a member of our community, stakeholder, or outdoor enthusiast, we believe you should have transparent access to THOR’s corporate responsibility efforts via this dedicated website and elsewhere.
These corporate responsibility efforts establish a foundation that allows THOR, along with our employees and communities, to grow and thrive well into the future. As leaders in our industry, it is our responsibility to constantly improve and create a space for others to flourish. Our hope is that by pushing ourselves to do more for each other and the environment, we will encourage others to do the same.
We are eager to share the many impactful sustainability initiatives Erwin Hymer Group has undertaken as we continue our integration of EHG into the THOR Industries family of companies. All information and policies provided currently apply to THOR companies based in the US only. Data and statistics pertain to FY2019 unless otherwise indicated.
A letter from the THOR Industries’ Board of Directors:
As the global leader in the recreational vehicle (RV) industry, promoting sustainable environmental, social and governance practices is an integral part of THOR’s culture. 2021 was a historic year, one which presented the world with new realities. We encountered rising consumer demand, record order backlogs and unprecedented global supply chain challenges which tested our ingenuity. We are proud that our experienced and agile team continued to make significant strides in our sustainability journey by maintaining a focus on our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) efforts, all while continuing to navigate the disruption caused by the pandemic.
THOR’s commitment to sustainability helps us understand and address environmental, social and governance risk, while enabling us to have a positive impact on our consumers, partners, team members, and communities. As a testament to THOR’s commitment to sustainability, in June 2021, the Board of Directors formally renamed the Governance and Nomination Committee to the Environmental, Social, Governance and Nomination Committee. We believe, in addition to doing what’s right, sustainability efforts will continue to help us be more resilient and more adaptive.
This year, THOR took bold steps towards achieving the 50% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 Green House Gas (GHG) emissions by 2030 – the interim target of our carbon net-neutral goal by 2050 – as part of the commitment THOR made to “Business Ambition for 1.5°C” in June 2020. We are excited to announce our Erwin Hymer Group achieved the significant milestone of carbon net-neutral manufacturing during fiscal year 2021. We are very proud of the Erwin Hymer Group for this accomplishment as it is a first for the RV industry. THOR also achieved the important milestone in our sustainability journey by voluntarily completing the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Carbon & Climate Questionnaire, for which we intent to submit data annually.
Innovation continues to be a priority for THOR as we consider the future of our team members, operations and our ability to positively impact RV travel. In fiscal 2021, THOR’s first Chief Innovation Officer was appointed and charged with developing a vision for evolving and optimizing innovation across the THOR family of companies, globally. The longterm success of our company requires the integration of sustainability efforts into all aspects of our business to ensure we make a positive and lasting impact on the communities in which we live and operate.
Our commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) continued to strengthen throughout fiscal 2021. THOR’s DEI journey included engaging a Chief People and Inclusion consultant to develop a DEI framework and benchmark initiatives, implementing new recruiting and retention strategies, creating an inclusive culture, and building partnerships with organizations which serve diverse communities through our Inclusion Committee.
This year’s sustainability report highlights THOR’s initiatives to protect and explore our communities. We look forward to the adventure ahead and commit to working with our stakeholders to impact sustainability opportunities in our future.
Taking care of our team members by supporting them in their personal and professional goals is a priority at THOR. We do this by engaging and connecting with our team members to help in their development. We continue to implement resources to cultivate and empower our people around the globe. THOR is proud of the work we do in our communities, as they are a valuable resource to our success. We continue to develop our culture and organization every day.
