Heartland Cyclone RV Tour

2025 THOR Ambassadors

Hi, we're the Saul's!

Our family of four made the bold decision to leave our home in Asheville, North Carolina, and hit the road in our Heartland Cyclone 4150 toy hauler. For us, the open road isn't just about reaching a destination—it's truly become a way of life. As a family of four, we've wholeheartedly embraced extended RV adventures, a journey that’s taken us through 42 of the 48 continental U.S. states and into the awe-inspiring landscapes of Banff, Canada. Our 2016 Heartland Cyclone 4150 Toy Hauler has been absolutely central to these incredible experiences, giving us the comfort and flexibility we need to explore the country together.

Why We Chose a Toy Hauler

Our decision to go with a toy hauler was driven by a few key needs for our family. With two children, making sure everyone had their own personal space was essential for comfortable, extended trips—and for maintaining a sense of individual retreat on the road. The Cyclone 4150’s adaptable layout gave us the ability to create three bedrooms, a feature we knew would be invaluable.

Beyond personal space, we also longed for some of the familiar comforts of a traditional home—specifically, a full-size bathtub where we could truly unwind after a day of hiking and adventure, and a back patio to immerse ourselves in the stunning, ever-changing environments around us.

A Layout That Works for Us

The layout of our Cyclone 4150 has proven incredibly functional for our family. The entire front section of the fifth wheel houses a surprisingly spacious, residential-style bathroom—complete with a full-size tub! Interestingly, the combination of this large bathroom and the front master bedroom provides significantly more cargo storage than you’d typically find in standard fifth wheels, which has been a huge benefit for hauling all our gear.

In the main living area, opposing slide-outs create a wonderfully open space—perfect for cozy family movie nights or just relaxing together. The converted garage bedroom at the rear features a clever bed that raises and lowers electronically, giving us adaptable space during the day and a comfortable sleeping area at night. And with the Morryde PatioEX on our back porch, our outdoor living space essentially doubles. It’s the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the breathtaking views wherever we park.

These features—especially the luxurious bathtub for post-adventure relaxation and the back patio for sunsets and stargazing—have truly enhanced our travel lifestyle and made this RV feel like a true home away from home.

Our Favorite Destination (So Far)

Our Heartland Cyclone has been a reliable partner on countless adventures across the U.S. and into the Canadian Rockies. While every destination holds its own unique charm, Banff, Canada, remains our absolute favorite. Camping amidst the towering, majestic peaks and exploring the turquoise waters of places like Athabasca Glacier and Moraine Lake was nothing short of magical. The sheer scale of the landscape left us in awe and gave us some of the most breathtaking backdrops for our family memories.

Campsite Setup: Our Routine

Arriving at a new campsite is a team effort that’s become a familiar—and even enjoyable—routine. While the initial tasks of hooking up power, water, and sewer can vary depending on the quirks of each site, we’ve developed a smooth system by dividing responsibilities and working together efficiently.

Inside, most of our décor is secured with Velcro for travel, so setup mainly involves rearranging a few larger items (like our ice maker) and deploying the Morryde PatioEX. Once that back porch is expanded, it instantly transforms into an inviting outdoor living space—complete with cozy seating and our outdoor TV—where we can relax and soak in the surroundings. That initial flurry of setup fades quickly as we settle in and start enjoying everything our new location has to offer.

Space That Makes Life on the Road Work

The three separate bedrooms in our Cyclone are absolutely key to maintaining family harmony on extended trips. Everyone has their own quiet space to relax, recharge, and retreat as needed. And the clever use of the Morryde PatioEX transforms our outdoor area into a true extension of our living space—especially in warmer weather—giving us more room to spread out, unwind, and truly feel at home.

More Than Just an RV

Our 2016 Heartland Cyclone 4150 Toy Hauler has been instrumental in turning our extended travel dreams into reality. It’s more than just an RV—it’s the backdrop for countless cherished family memories we’ll treasure for years to come.

Toy Haulers

Many people think of toy haulers as the wild-child of the RV world. Sometimes that’s true. While the toy hauler originated as a mobile man-cave complete with diamond plate walls, this popular RV type has evolved into much more. Today you might want to think of toy haulers as open-concept living spaces with multi-purpose utility.
