The Best Tech Gadgets for RVers

Technology has revolutionized how we travel and experience the great outdoors in the world of RVing. From unlimited Wi-Fi that is accessible virtually anywhere, to high-tech tools for pet safety and black tank level monitoring, there are a plethora of products that can make your RV journey more enjoyable, comfortable and convenient.

Over the last two-and-a-half years, we have cataloged over 75,000 miles of RV travel around the country. During that time, we’ve had our fair share of unexpected issues that eventually led us to find gadgets and tech that doubled as solutions. These tools allow us to spend more time on what matters most: our moments together enjoying the outdoors. With that being said, here’s a list of our favorite RV tech and gadgets.

1. Waggle Pet Monitor

This is a must-have for RVers who travel with their pets. Waggle is a device that plugs into the interior of your RV and constantly monitors temperature & humidity levels. It will send temperature or power alerts via text and/or email in real time so that you never have to worry about the well-being of your pets when you’re away from the campground.

The Waggle Monitor has its own cellular connection, so you don’t need a Wi-Fi connection to use this device. If we go on a hike or visit a museum that isn’t pet-friendly, we feel reassured that our furbabies are safe back at the campground. And if there is a power outage or other issue, we will immediately know and be able to return to our RV.

Waggle has an app with an easy-to-use interface that allows you to check the temperature of your RV whenever you want. The device refreshes every 15 minutes and provides the accurate temperature and humidity within the RV.

2. Starlink

It’s 2023 and internet access is a must for most RVers, but as many of us know, a lot of desirable destinations don’t offer reliable Wi-Fi or even have cell access.

Whether you work on the road, want to stay connected to family or friends, or need to see the big game, Starlink for RVers allows travelers to bring reliable internet connectivity wherever they go via satellite internet. This is especially valuable for RV enthusiasts who frequently explore remote or rural areas where traditional internet options may be limited or unavailable.

We love having Starlink as an option to ensure we always have an internet connection. It allows us to be more adventurous with the places we go because we know we will have satellite internet to keep up with work emails and projects.

3. Ninja Foodi / Air Fryer

The Ninja Foodi combines the functions of a pressure cooker, grill and air fryer into a single appliance. You can pressure cook, slow cook, steam, sear, sauté, air fry, bake, broil, grill, and dehydrate various foods, including meats, vegetables, and more, all in one device. It's designed to save time and counter space while offering various cooking methods.

If you frequently RV, you may want to avoid standard burger and hotdog dinners. An all-in-one gadget that’s easy and safe to use is an excellent option for any RVer. Our Ninja Foodi fits in our kitchen cabinet and is easy to lift and stow on travel days. We have been able to cook delicious, gourmet meals from Montana's mountains to Utah's deserts.

Highly recommend!

4. Keyless Entry Door Lock / RVlock

Keyless Entry Locks and RVLock provide keyless entry systems that replace traditional mechanical locks on RV doors. These systems typically include a keypad or touchpad that allows RV owners to enter a PIN code to unlock the door, eliminating the need for physical keys. The RV owner can create each PIN, providing an extra layer of protection and peace of mind for the safety of your RV when you’re out exploring.

When Nicole and I are away from the RV, we leave behind precious cargo inside: our pets. They are our main priority, and knowing they are safe is easy with a personalized RV lock.

Not only that, but keyless entry makes bringing in groceries or running in from the rain much easier when you don’t have to worry about digging the keys out of a bag or pocket. You can also lock the door with just one button, and how can you beat the ease of that?

We learned early on that there is no right way to get outside, it’s just crucial that we do it. Since starting our journey, Bailey has lost more than 100 pounds and attributes this most heavily to the benefits of exploring the outdoors. Plus a meal never tastes as good as it does after a 6 mile hike out in nature!

At the end of the day, life is all about memories. Sometimes those memories are getting the ice cream two days in a row and appreciating the body you have as it allows you to enjoy all life has to offer. Most of the time, it’s small moments that become big memories—when meals in the camper or walks around the campground feel just as exhilarating in this new life we’ve created on the road.

5. Solo ONEControl Command System

The Dutchmen Solo OneControl Command System offers remote control capabilities, allowing users to control and monitor RV systems from a mobile device like a smartphone or tablet.

Solo One controls various RV functions, including lighting, climate control (heating and cooling), slide-out rooms, awnings, entertainment systems, and more.

You can even access monitoring and diagnostic features, allowing RV owners to check the status of various systems and receive alerts in case of issues or malfunctions.

This “smart” system is available in many new RVs, and we use it on every RV trip. If you’re looking to buy a new RV, we recommend asking your dealer for RVs with similar built-in systems—the convenience is unmatched!

6. iPhone's Leveling System

Why stow and use a leveling stick when you can grab your smartphone?

This RV tech may seem simple, but it has been beneficial to my RV set-up and leveling experience. I can place my iPhone on the surface of my RV floor, counter, storage locker, or bumper to get accurate readings and ensure my RV is level. This is especially useful if your RV does not have auto-leveling and you have to do it the old-fashioned way.

The pre-installed iPhone app will display a visual indicator (usually a bubble or a line) that moves as you tilt your phone. You can adjust the surface until the indicator is centered to ensure its level. We love the accessibility of a leveling system thats always in our pocket. It saves us time during setup so we can get to sitting around the campfire sooner.

7. Pocket Projector and Screen

Imagine sitting by the campfire, stars overhead, with your favorite movie playing. That is how memories are made!

We added a pocket projector to our RV trips last year and used it more often than we imagined. We use a simple white sheet held up by command hooks on the outside wall of our RV. As night sets, the fun begins!

A projector is the ultimate entertainment accessory, from game night on the big screen to family movies for the whole campground. We have a Kodak Luma 150 and a Nebula Capsule Laser Projector. You don’t need to spend much to get a powerful pocket projector for your camping trip. We love using a projector on RV trips and highly recommend it to others!

New RV gadgets and tech emerge daily to make RV trips more enjoyable, comfortable and convenient. Whether you like to RV with modern technology or head into the mountains for peace and quiet, these helpful products will become a staple accessory on your next adventure.

Fifth Wheels

This camping trailer affectionately nicknamed a “Fiver” is a favorite of many, especially those taking extended trips or traveling full time in their RV. The prominent overhang resting above the tow truck bed is frequently employed as a bedroom suite, or, more recently, a living room or even a kitchen.
