Arrival Checklist
Arrival and Setup
Once you’ve made it to your campground, RV resort, or final destination, it’s time to park, set up, and relax. Here are some basic pointers.
Get to your Site
- Check in with campground office/park ranger station
- Get directions to campsite
- Find your site and do a walkthrough before parking
- If needed, visit dumping station before parking
- Drive into campsite (pull through or back in)
- Check parking job (space, alignment with hookups, clearance)
- Set the parking brake(s)
Level and Unhitch (Towable RVs)
- Level RV and chock wheels
- Place blocks under jacks
- Lower leveling jacks until RV is supported
- Remove safety chains and disconnect cables
- Unhitch RV
Set Up
- Expand camper to its parked position (expandable and pop-up campers)
- Extend steps and restore hand rails and slide-outs to their parked position
- Connect to hookups (electricity, sewer, water, cable, telephone)
- Open gray water tank valves (keep black water tank valves closed)
- Turn on propane tank, open valves and check for leaks
- Open water heater valve to fill tank
- Turn on air conditioner/furnace
- Test water and electrical connections
- Set up outdoor gear and awning
- Unlatch doors (interior and exterior)
- Return items to their parked storage positions
- Raise antennas and satellites
